Reef Nutrition Apex-Pods Live Copepods – 6 oz
Build a thriving copepod population in your reef with Reef Nutrition Apex-Pods, a concentrated culture of live Apocyclops panamensis copepods ideal for seeding aquariums and refugiums, boosting biodiversity and providing a natural live food source for marine livestock.
Each 6 oz bottle contains approximately 2,000 live juvenile and adult copepods, including reproductive adults. Apex-Pods reproduce rapidly under suitable conditions, making them an excellent choice for reef keepers looking to establish or strengthen a sustainable pod population.
Why Apex-Pods?
Excellent for Establishing Pod Populations
Apex-Pods reproduce rapidly and are well suited for stocking established reef aquariums, refugiums and dedicated copepod cultures.
Approximately 2,000 Live Copepods
Each 6 oz bottle contains approximately 2,000 juvenile and adult Apocyclops panamensis copepods.
Natural Live Food
Copepods provide a natural food source for mandarins, dragonets, seahorses, pipefish, wrasses and other marine livestock that hunt small zooplankton.
Boost Aquarium Biodiversity
A healthy copepod population adds another layer of biological diversity to your reef ecosystem.
Helps Consume Organic Waste
Apex-Pods feed on organic material while living and reproducing throughout suitable aquarium habitats.
Great for Displays & Refugiums
Add them directly to your reef aquarium, sump or refugium depending on your system and goals.
How to Use
Upon arrival, do not refrigerate Apex-Pods.
Pop the cap open and allow the bottle to stand at room temperature for approximately 2 hours to allow the temperature to gradually rise. Salinity acclimation is not necessary.
For establishing a population in your display aquarium:
Turn off aquarium lights, wavemakers and recirculation pumps.
Pour the Apex-Pods into the aquarium and allow approximately 30 minutes for them to settle into rockwork and substrate before restarting circulation.
Temporarily removing filter socks or floss can help prevent newly introduced pods from immediately being captured by mechanical filtration.
For a refugium, Apex-Pods can simply be poured directly into the refugium and allowed to settle.
Rinse the empty bottle with a small amount of clean saltwater and add the rinse water to the aquarium to collect any remaining copepods.
Feeding Your Pod Population
Regular phytoplankton feeding can help support an established Apex-Pod population.
Providing porous rock, substrate and macroalgae such as Chaetomorpha gives copepods additional habitat and protected areas where they can reproduce away from predators.
Important Live Product Care
DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
Pop the bottle cap open upon arrival and during acclimation.
After reaching room temperature, Apex-Pods should be added to the aquarium or culture vessel within 24 hours of arrival.
