Plate Corals
Plate corals are stunning free-living LPS corals known for their bold colors, flowing tentacles, and distinctive round or elongated shapes. Often called Fungia or disk corals, they make an eye-catching centerpiece on the sand bed and can display excellent movement during feeding.
Plate corals are available in a wide range of colors and patterns, including greens, oranges, purples, pinks, and multicolor varieties. Because they naturally expand and may move slightly, they should be placed on an open area of the sand bed with enough room away from rocks and neighboring corals.
Plate corals receive much of their energy from aquarium lighting but benefit from occasional feedings of finely chopped meaty foods, mysis shrimp, or quality coral food. Stable reef parameters, appropriate calcium and alkalinity levels, and sufficient spacing will help support healthy growth and coloration.
