Placement and Water Flow

Place the Micronesian Lobophyllia in the lower-to-middle portion of the aquarium. It may be positioned on the sand bed or securely placed on lower rockwork where its fleshy tissue will not rub against sharp surfaces.

Provide low-to-moderate, indirect water movement. The flow should be sufficient to prevent debris from settling on the coral without forcefully pushing or retracting its tissue.

Lighting and Acclimation

Medium reef lighting is recommended. Begin the coral under lower intensity and gradually acclimate it to its final lighting conditions to reduce the possibility of stress or bleaching.

Its appearance and coloration may vary under different lighting spectrums. Blue and actinic lighting can bring out fluorescent colors that may be less visible under daylight settings.

Feeding

The Micronesian Lobophyllia obtains much of its energy through photosynthesis, but it may benefit from occasional supplemental feeding. Small pieces of meaty marine food or appropriately sized coral food may be offered when its feeding polyps are extended.

Avoid overfeeding and remove any uneaten food when practical.

Compatibility and Spacing

Lobophyllia corals can damage neighboring corals through direct contact and the release of digestive filaments. Leave several inches of open space around the specimen and account for its tissue expansion when selecting its placement.
