Appearance & Growth

Duncan Corals feature large, fleshy polyps extending from a branching stony skeleton. When fully expanded, the individual heads create a lush, flower-like appearance with tentacles gently moving in the current.

As the coral becomes established, additional heads can develop from the branching skeleton, allowing the colony to become larger and fuller over time.

Because this specimen starts with approximately 10 heads, it can provide the appearance of an established Duncan colony without waiting for a small frag to grow out.

Placement

Place the Duncan on stable rockwork where it has room to fully expand.

Duncans are relatively peaceful compared with many LPS corals, but adequate space should still be provided between the colony and neighboring corals.

Keep future growth in mind when choosing its permanent location.

Lighting & Water Flow

Provide low to moderate reef lighting.

Duncans generally do not require the intense lighting associated with many SPS corals and can perform well in lower and middle areas of the aquarium.

Provide low to moderate, indirect water movement that gently moves the tentacles without continuously blasting the colony.

Excessive flow can prevent the polyps from fully extending.

Feeding & Nutrition

Duncan Corals receive much of their nutritional needs through photosynthesis but are also responsive feeders.

They can benefit from occasional supplemental feeding with appropriately sized foods such as:

Mysis shrimp
Finely chopped marine foods
Small meaty reef foods
Quality LPS coral foods

Target feeding is optional but may help support growth and development of additional heads.

Use caution with fish or invertebrates known to nip at fleshy LPS corals.
