Placement and Water Flow

Place the Marshall Island Torch Coral where it will receive moderate, indirect water movement. Its tentacles should sway gently without being forcefully pushed to one side or whipped against its skeleton.

Although ORA indicates that it can be placed at multiple levels, begin in a lower or moderately lit area and adjust its placement after observing tissue extension and coloration.

Lighting and Acclimation

Medium-to-high reef lighting supports healthy growth and coloration. Gradually acclimate the coral when introducing it to brighter lighting to reduce the possibility of stress or bleaching.

Its glowing yellow tips may become especially noticeable under blue and actinic reef lighting.

Compatibility and Spacing

Torch corals are aggressive and can extend powerful sweeper tentacles beyond their visible daytime size. Leave at least 6 inches of open space between this coral and unrelated neighboring corals.

Torch corals may sometimes tolerate other torches, but compatibility between individual specimens is never guaranteed. Monitor all neighboring corals carefully for signs of contact or damage.

Aquarium Stability

Maintain stable alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, salinity, temperature, and nutrient levels. Avoid sudden changes in water chemistry, lighting intensity, or water movement.

Ensure that its soft tissue does not rub against exposed skeleton, sharp rockwork, or neighboring corals.

Feeding

This coral obtains much of its energy through photosynthesis but may benefit from occasional supplemental feeding. Small pieces of meaty marine food or appropriately sized coral food may be offered when its feeding response is visible.

Avoid overfeeding and remove uneaten food when practical.
