Reef Octopus BioChurn 120INT In-Sump Biopellet Reactor | Aquariums Up to 185 Gallons

Take control of excess nutrients and improve water quality with the Reef Octopus BioChurn 120INT In-Sump Biopellet Reactor. Designed for serious reef hobbyists, this innovative reactor uses a patented churn-style fluidization system to keep biopellet media in constant suspension, maximizing bacterial colonization while efficiently reducing nitrate (NO₃) and phosphate (PO₄).

Unlike traditional tumbling biopellet reactors that often require excessive flow, the BioChurn's unique cyclone-style motion gently churns the media for greater contact time and more consistent nutrient export. The result is improved water clarity, healthier corals, and a more stable reef aquarium.

Perfect For

• Mixed reef aquariums

• SPS, LPS, and soft coral systems

• Fish-only saltwater aquariums

• Hobbyists battling elevated nitrate or phosphate

• Aquariums with heavy bioloads

• In-sump filtration systems

Why You'll Love It

Innovative Churn-Style Fluidization

Instead of simply tumbling the media, the patented churn plate creates a cyclone motion that suspends biopellets evenly, increasing bacterial contact while minimizing clumping and dead spots.

Better Nutrient Control

Biopellets provide a carbon source for beneficial bacteria, which naturally consume nitrate and phosphate before being removed by your protein skimmer.

Independent Flow Control

The included Aquatrance pump features an adjustable flow valve so you can fine-tune media movement without blasting the pellets.

Easy Maintenance

A removable upper containment plate allows for quick cleaning and media replacement while keeping pellets securely inside the reactor.

Built for Reliability

Constructed from high-quality cast acrylic for long-lasting performance in demanding saltwater environments.

How Biopellets Work

Biopellets are a form of solid carbon dosing. As beneficial bacteria colonize the pellets, they consume nitrate and phosphate from the aquarium water. These bacteria are then exported by your protein skimmer, helping maintain cleaner water and reducing nuisance algae.

For best results, use this reactor alongside a properly sized protein skimmer and quality biopellet media.
