Contain the spheres where necessary to keep them away from pump intakes. Place in a water-flow path that remains accessible for gentle cleaning. The media needs time to develop bacterial colonies; verify cycling with water tests. Keep some mature media undisturbed whenever cleaning or replacing part of the filter.
