IceCap In-Sump UV Sterilizer | 18W, 27W & 40W
Clearer water without adding chemicals to your aquarium. The IceCap In-Sump UV Sterilizer passes water through a high-output UV chamber to help control free-floating algae and reduce microorganisms in the water column. Its drop-in design keeps installation simple: choose the size that fits your system, place the unit in your sump, and use the included feed pump to move water through it.
Available in 18W, 27W, and 40W models for freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
Why add UV to your system?
-
Helps clear green water caused by free-floating algae
-
Reduces waterborne bacteria and other microorganisms as they pass through the unit
-
Works without dosing a chemical treatment
-
Includes a model-matched feed pump
-
Installs in a sump without permanent plumbing
UV treats the water that passes through the sterilizer. It does not replace good filtration, maintenance, or appropriate care for sick fish, and it does not remove the beneficial bacteria living on your rock, substrate, and filter media.
Choose your size
| Model | IceCap marine rating | IceCap freshwater rating | Unit dimensions | Included pump | Maximum pump flow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18W | Up to 60 gallons | Up to 600 gallons | 3.5" × 3.5" × 18.4" | DC-700 | 185 GPH |
| 27W | Up to 140 gallons | Up to 1,300 gallons | 4.6" × 4.3" × 22" | EVO 1000 | 264 GPH |
| 40W | Up to 400 gallons | Up to 3,000 gallons | 5.4" × 5.1" × 24" | EVO 2000 | 528 GPH |
Check the available height in your sump cabinet before selecting a model. The manufacturer’s aquarium ratings are a sizing guide; your actual results depend on flow rate, system volume, and the goal you’re trying to achieve.
Flow rate matters
For water clarity and control of free-floating algae, water can pass through the UV chamber faster. Targeting waterborne parasites calls for a slower flow and longer exposure. Choose and operate the unit according to IceCap’s instructions for your intended use. UV can help reduce organisms that pass through it, but it cannot guarantee that an aquarium will remain free of disease.
What’s included
Each model includes the UV unit, UV lamp, quartz sleeve, high-output ballast, and its corresponding feed pump. The 27W and 40W models also include output components for directing the return flow.
Installation note: These are in-sump units, but they are not fully submersible. Keep the electrical components dry and connect the equipment to a properly grounded GFCI-protected outlet. Always unplug the unit before inspection or maintenance, and never look at an operating UV lamp.
Maintenance and warranty
UV output declines with use, and buildup on the quartz sleeve reduces the amount of UV light reaching the water. Inspect and clean the sleeve as needed, and plan to replace the lamp and sleeve according to IceCap’s maintenance guidance. IceCap lists a one-year limited manufacturer warranty for the sterilizer.
