Designed for freshwater, saltwater, and reef aquariums, this durable heating system combines a corrosion-resistant titanium heating tube, external temperature probe, and easy-to-read digital controller.

The external controller allows you to monitor and adjust the temperature without placing your hands in the aquarium. Built-in calibration, temperature memory, and overheating protection provide additional control and protection for your fish, corals, and other aquatic livestock.

Available in four wattages for aquariums ranging from approximately 15 to 80 gallons.

External Digital Controller

The digital controller displays the aquarium’s current water temperature and allows the desired temperature to be adjusted without reaching into the aquarium.

When the water temperature falls approximately 1–2°F below the selected setting, the heater automatically begins heating. Once the selected temperature is reached, the heater stops until additional heating is required.

Temperature Calibration

If the controller reading differs from a trusted aquarium thermometer, the HG085 can be calibrated by pressing and holding the positive and negative buttons simultaneously for approximately five seconds.

For best results, verify the aquarium temperature using a separate, dependable thermometer.

Overheating Protection

If the detected water temperature reaches approximately 95–97°F, the heater automatically stops heating and displays an E2 warning. Normal operation resumes after the temperature returns to the heater’s safe operating range.

Built-in safety functions are not a substitute for regular monitoring or an independent aquarium temperature controller.

Installation and Safety

Position the heater in an area with consistent water circulation to distribute heat evenly throughout the aquarium. The heating element and temperature probe should remain fully submerged during operation.

Always unplug the heater before performing aquarium maintenance or removing it from the water. Allow the heating element to cool before handling. Never operate the heater outside of water.

For larger, valuable, or temperature-sensitive systems, consider using two appropriately sized heaters and an independent temperature controller to provide additional redundancy.
