The Harlequin Shrimp is one of the most striking and fascinating invertebrates available for saltwater aquariums. Its creamy white body, colorful markings and oversized paddle-shaped claws make it a true showpiece.
Harlequin Shrimp are also highly effective hunters of pest Asterina starfish. However, they have an extremely specialized diet and should only be purchased by aquarists who can provide a consistent supply of starfish.
Important Feeding Requirement
Harlequin Shrimp feed almost exclusively on starfish and cannot survive on pellets, flakes, frozen foods or standard shrimp diets.
A reliable supply of Asterina, Chocolate Chip or other appropriate feeder starfish must be available before purchasing. They may also attack ornamental starfish and sea urchins kept in the aquarium.
