Maxima clams require strong reef-quality lighting and are best placed on stable upper rockwork. They attach themselves using threads produced by the byssal organ, so allow the clam to select and secure its position. Never forcefully pull an attached clam from the rock.

ORA recommends placing Maxima clams high in the aquarium under intense lighting with rocky substrate available for attachment.

Feeding

Maxima clams receive most of their nutritional needs through photosynthesis. Supplemental phytoplankton is not required when adequate lighting and nutrients are available, but occasional phytoplankton feeding may provide additional nutritional benefits to the clam and other filter-feeding animals.
