Placement and Care

Place the coral directly on a soft, open sand bed with adequate space around it. Do not glue a Fungia Plate Coral to rockwork. Plate corals are free-living and can slowly move by inflating and contracting their tissue.

Avoid placing it on sharp or uneven rocks that could damage the coral’s delicate underside or fleshy tissue. Leave space between the plate coral and nearby corals because it may move or sting neighboring specimens.

Provide gentle, indirect water movement. Excessive flow can prevent full inflation, push the coral across the aquarium, or cause tissue damage from contact with nearby rockwork.

Begin under lower lighting and gradually acclimate the coral if moving it into a brighter reef system.

Feeding

The Tropical Fruit Fungia Plate Coral receives much of its energy through photosynthesis but can benefit from occasional supplemental feeding.

Offer small portions of mysis shrimp, finely chopped marine foods, or appropriately sized LPS coral food near the central mouth when its feeding tentacles are extended. Avoid placing large pieces of food on the coral or allowing uneaten food to remain on its tissue.
