Reef Octopus BR2000SS Space Saver Biopellet Reactor | Learn How to Naturally Reduce Nitrates & Phosphates

A healthy reef aquarium isn't just about keeping fish alive—it's about maintaining long-term nutrient balance. If nitrates and phosphates continue to rise despite regular water changes, a biopellet reactor can become one of the most effective long-term nutrient management tools available.

The Reef Octopus BR2000SS Space Saver Biopellet Reactor is designed to make solid carbon dosing simple, efficient, and reliable. Its compact all-in-one design saves valuable sump space while providing consistent water flow through biopellet media to encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria that naturally consume excess nutrients.

Understanding Biopellets

Many reef hobbyists eventually encounter one or more of these problems:

• Rising nitrates

• Elevated phosphates

• Excess nuisance algae

• Heavy fish stocking

• Increased feeding for coral growth

Water changes help, but they often don't completely solve the underlying nutrient imbalance.

Biopellets provide a biodegradable carbon source that feeds beneficial bacteria. As these bacteria multiply, they consume nitrate and phosphate from the aquarium water. Once established, your protein skimmer removes the bacteria from the system, physically exporting those nutrients from your aquarium.

Pair with Reef Octopus BioSphere Bio Pellets to help reduce Nitrate & Phosphate levels in your aquarium.

Why Choose the BR2000SS?

Unlike many traditional reactors, the BR2000SS was engineered specifically for biopellet media.

Instead of requiring additional plumbing or external feed pumps, this all-in-one reactor includes everything needed for efficient operation while maintaining a compact footprint inside your sump.

Key Features

Space Saving Design

The integrated pump design minimizes sump clutter while maximizing usable filtration space.

Complete All-in-One Reactor

Includes the Water Blaster HY2000 feed pump, eliminating the need to purchase a separate feed pump.

Adjustable Flow Control

Fine tune media movement to achieve proper pellet suspension without excessive tumbling.

Reverse Cone Distribution Plate

Provides even water distribution throughout the media bed for improved bacterial colonization.

Easy Media Refills

Unlike many reactors, there is no center pipe running through the chamber, making media changes significantly easier.

Pellet Retention System

Engineered upper and lower containment plates help prevent pellets from escaping during normal operation or power outages.

Flexible Installation

The lid can be installed in four different orientations, making plumbing easier regardless of sump layout.

Is a Biopellet Reactor Right for You?

This reactor is an excellent choice if you have:

• Persistent nitrates above your desired range

• Elevated phosphates contributing to nuisance algae

• A heavily stocked fish-only or reef aquarium

• Large coral feeding schedules

• A quality protein skimmer already running

If your nutrients are already extremely low, a biopellet reactor may not be necessary. Like any filtration method, it should be introduced gradually and monitored with regular water testing.

Our Recommendation

For the best results, pair this reactor with:

• A properly sized protein skimmer

• Quality biopellet media

• Routine nitrate and phosphate testing

• Gradual introduction of biopellets rather than filling the reactor all at once

Remember that nutrient reduction takes time. Most aquariums require several weeks before seeing the full benefits of bacterial colonization.
