First Grade Purple Maxima Clam – Tridacna maxima
A purple-mantled Maxima clam for an established reef display with suitable lighting and stable conditions. Its mantle pattern and apparent color vary between specimens and viewing angles.
What You Receive
One live First Grade Purple Maxima clam, listed at approximately 1.5 inches or larger when available. The photo is representative, not the exact specimen. Size, markings and color vary naturally.
Lighting & Placement
Maxima clams require strong, appropriate reef lighting and a stable attachment surface. Acclimate to your lighting rather than placing immediately at maximum intensity. Leave space for the mantle to open and avoid directing a pump jet at it. Once attached, never pull it loose; protect the byssal attachment and foot.
Care & Compatibility
For a mature, stable reef aquarium. Monitor salinity and reef chemistry consistently, including calcium and alkalinity, and provide space for adult growth. Check regularly for pests and avoid fish or invertebrates that nip clam mantles. It is a living display animal with specific husbandry needs.
Feeding & Acclimation
Appropriate lighting is central to its care. Any supplemental feeding should suit the clam and the aquarium; avoid excessive feeding or using food as a substitute for adequate light. Follow the supplied arrival instructions and avoid abrupt salinity and temperature changes. Do not expose to copper medications or use coral dips on a live clam.
Prepare for Arrival
Recommended accessory: Simplicity Drip Acclimation Kit for controlled acclimation when directed by the arrival instructions. Sold separately.
